Frameless Glass Showers

10 mm tempered glass. Zero compromise.

A frameless glass shower door installation eliminates the framing, the rubber gaskets, and the grout lines where mildew takes hold in conventional enclosures. What remains is pure glass — supported by precision-machined hardware, sealed with architectural-grade silicone, and calibrated to within 1 mm of your tiled opening.

Enclosure Configurations

Every opening has the right configuration.

Frameless glass shower enclosures come in several layouts. Every enclosure is precision-measured and custom-engineered by our certified fabrication partners to your exact dimensions — no standard sizes, no compromises.

01

Inline Pivot Door

A single hinged door alongside one or more fixed panels. The most common frameless configuration — clean, minimal, and suited to alcove openings from 36 inches to 72 inches wide.

  • 10mm or 12mm tempered glass
  • Pivot or hinged hardware
  • 5 hardware finishes
  • From $850 minimum / $40/sqft (10mm clear)
02

Corner Enclosure

Two glass walls meeting at 90° with a door on one face. Requires precision 90° glass-to-glass hinges and exact angle measurement — only achievable with a site-templated custom fabrication.

  • Glass-to-glass hinges
  • Return panel options
  • 10mm or 12mm tempered
  • Priced by sqft — use our estimator
03

Walk-In & Neo-Angle

Open walk-in panels with no door, or three-sided neo-angle configurations. Popular in large ensuite formats where a threshold-free, fully open entry is the priority.

  • No threshold option
  • Custom panel heights to 96"
  • 10mm or 12mm glass
  • Priced by sqft — use our estimator
Glass Specifications

10 mm tempered glass — the standard that holds.

Tempered safety glass is the only glass allowed by code in shower enclosures (OBC 9.7.3, ANSI Z97.1). Tempering heats the glass to 620°C then rapidly cools it, creating surface compression that makes it four to five times stronger than annealed (standard) glass of the same thickness.

Standard Thickness
10 mm (3/8″) — residential inline and corner enclosures
Heavy Thickness
12 mm (1/2″) — tall walk-ins, steam enclosures, pivot applications >78″
Safety Standard
ANSI Z97.1 / CPSC 16 CFR 1201 safety glazing certified
Quality Standard
ASTM C1048 heat-treated flat glass (Kind FT — fully tempered)
Surface Options
Clear, ultra-clear (low-iron), satin (acid-etched), bronze tint, grey tint, fluted, reeded
Nano Coating
Enduro Shield factory-applied hydrophobic coating available; repels water spots and soap film
Panel Heights
Standard to 84″; custom fabrication available to 108″ with structural header

FAQ · Frameless Glass Showers

Common questions about frameless shower installation.

The standard for frameless shower door installation in Toronto is 10mm (3/8 inch) fully tempered safety glass for most residential configurations. We upgrade to 12mm (1/2 inch) for doors taller than 78 inches, steam enclosures, and applications where door mass or hardware type requires additional rigidity. We never install 8mm or lighter glass in a frameless configuration — it lacks the structural integrity for hinged frameless applications. Both thicknesses meet ANSI Z97.1 and ASTM C1048 requirements.

We source architectural hardware in five standard finishes: matte black, brushed nickel, polished chrome, satin brass, and champagne bronze. All hardware — hinges, pulls, wall-mount brackets, U-channels, and towel bars — is matched from a single manufacturer's line for a consistent look across the GTA. We work with CRL, Dorma, and other architectural hardware suppliers. Use our design lab to preview finish combinations before committing.

Yes. We install frameless enclosures on tile-ready acrylic shower bases, custom tile pans, solid surface trays, and standard ceramic tile. The requirement is that the base must be fully finished, level, and set before we measure. We cannot measure or order glass before the base is complete, since even a small variance in the finished surface affects where the glass sits and seals.

Pricing depends on glass type, enclosure size, and hardware finish. Use our instant estimator for a real-time project-specific range, or book a free in-home measure for an exact quote. There are no flat per-unit prices here because the right number for your bathroom depends on your actual dimensions — our estimator takes 2 minutes and gives a project-specific range.

Yes. Condo frameless shower installations make up a large part of our Toronto work. We coordinate elevator booking and COI submission with property management, schedule around building noise bylaws, and have experience in hundreds of Toronto condo configurations including narrow galley layouts and units with non-standard wall angles. We work in towers across King West, Yorkville, Liberty Village, the Financial District, Scarborough, and North York. Book a free measure to confirm scheduling for your building.

Yes. Built By Glass installs frameless glass shower enclosures across the full Greater Toronto Area from our Pickering facility — including Toronto, Vaughan, Mississauga, Markham, Brampton, Oakville, Oshawa, Ajax, Whitby, Richmond Hill, and surrounding communities. There is no travel surcharge within our standard 80 km service radius.

From the date of the final laser measure — which must happen after tile is fully grouted — custom 10mm tempered glass panels take 10–14 business days to fabricate. On-site installation is completed in a single visit, typically 3–6 hours. You can use the shower 24 hours after installation once the silicone seal has cured. Total elapsed time from first contact to installed enclosure is typically 3–4 weeks.

A truly frameless shower uses only hardware connection points — hinges, clamps, and U-channels — with no continuous metal frame around the glass. A semi-frameless shower adds a metal channel along one or more edges, typically the top rail or a fixed panel edge. Frameless requires 10mm minimum glass to maintain rigidity, costs more, and provides the cleanest look and simplest cleaning routine. Semi-frameless is a practical middle ground at a lower price point. Use our estimator to compare options.
